Dr. Ruggiero Attends Annual COVD Conference
Earlier this month, Dr. Ruggiero attended the 43rd annual meeting of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) in Orlando, Florida. The five-day event represents the largest gathering of developmental optometrists, with attendees coming from all over the world.
Lecture topics included: the latest research on the relationship between vision and reading, diagnosing and treating the visual consequences of acquired brain injury, and sports vision – that is, vision enhancement beyond the norm in order to maximize athletic performance. There was also a lot of discussion about the implications of concussions in school age children, in particular, the risks of even mild head injuries to brain function.
During the event, Dr. Ruggiero had opportunities to connect with some prominent people in the field of vision rehabilitation, including Penelope Suter, the editor of the only comprehensive text on a multidisciplinary approach to vision rehabilitation. Here is a picture of Dr. Ruggiero talking with a speaker at the event.
